Cover Letter for Engineering Managers
Engineering manager cover letters are different from IC letters — you're not selling your technical depth, you're selling your ability to multiply a team's output. Every paragraph should signal that you understand the leverage of the role.

Engineering Manager Cover Letter Tips
Lead with your team's output, not your technical skills
"I led the team that shipped [product] to 500k users in Q3" is an EM sentence. "I architected the backend" is an IC sentence. At this level, what your team built matters more than what you personally coded.
Show you can hire
Hiring is often a top-3 responsibility for EMs. If you've grown a team — from 3 to 8, from 0 to 5 — say so. The ability to attract and close strong engineers is one of the most valued EM skills at any stage.
Name the organizational challenge, not just the technical one
Engineering managers work at the intersection of people, process, and product. Mentioning a cross-functional challenge you navigated (shipping under a tight deadline with a new product team, rebuilding a low-morale team) shows you understand the full scope of the role.
