Data Scientist Cover Letter Tips
Lead with a model that shipped and a result it produced
Open with the most impressive thing you've built that actually ran in production. Mention the problem, the model type, and the business outcome — in one sentence. That's more persuasive than a paragraph about your skills.
Show you understand their data problem specifically
Look at the company's product and engineering blog. What data problems are they solving publicly? Reference one. It signals genuine interest and the ability to do research — both qualities they're hiring for.
Link to your work
Include a GitHub, Kaggle, or portfolio link in the first paragraph. Hiring managers for data roles will click it. A strong notebook or project repo does more for your candidacy than anything you can write in the letter.
