Cover Letter for Account Executives
An AE cover letter is a sales document. Its job is to close one deal: an interview. If it's generic, wordy, or vague about results — you've already failed the screen.

Account Executive Cover Letter Tips
Open with your most important number
"I closed $1.4M in ARR in FY2025, finishing at 127% of quota" — that's a first sentence that earns a second read. AE hiring managers want one thing: a track record of closing. Put yours in the opening.
Show you understand their sales motion
Is it inbound or outbound? SMB or enterprise? Short cycle or 6-month procurement? Name it explicitly and show you've operated in a comparable model. Misaligned sales experience is a fast rejection in AE hiring.
Close with confidence, not desperation
AEs who write "I would be honored to be considered" signal low confidence. Close with something like "I'd love to talk about how my [X] experience maps to your [deal segment] pipeline." Direct, specific, confident.
Dos and Don'ts
Do
- ✓Lead with quota attainment %
- ✓Name the specific sales methodology you use
- ✓Mention average contract value and deal cycle
- ✓Keep it under 200 words
Don't
- ✗Don't say you're "a natural people person"
- ✗Don't hide a missed quota year — address it briefly if it's recent
- ✗Don't ignore their specific market segment
- ✗Don't write more than three paragraphs
